Re: SKS Searching...
Talked this over with my dealer yesterday. he said he hoped people would remember him for NOT being a gouger if TSHTF and that if i didnt, would remember him for being fair. i told him i would. There is no shortage of these weapons, they were manufactured in the tens of millions. there are not banned federally, there are no shortages of them. or of AKs , or most surplus rifles, demand has went up, sure it has, but 400% increases is gouging. I wouldnt buy them. if Obama does ban these, then the dealers will get stuck with a bunch of illegal weapons. I also understand how a dealer needs to profit, but selling rifles he paid $99 wholesale a year ago for $300-400 is gouging, and id do without.want to get one? trade off some expensive status symbol hunting rifle to a private owner for one and cash to boot.

Re: SKS Searching...
Went to shows the last two weekends and saw very few SKS's. Those that I found were all in the $400 plus range. All of the online dealers also seem to be "out" or highly priced.

If someone wanted to bear the risk and jump through the hoops to import a thousand SKS's, god bless 'em. They can charge whatever the market will bear. If you want it, shell out the bread. If you think the price will come down, wait 'em out. Some day, the supply of SKS's might be plentiful and the price will drop. I will make the best deal I can for one, and I really won't CARE what the dealer had invested in the gun. None of my business. Always reminds me of a lesson that I learned about 25 years ago. I was managing a paint store and a contractor came in to buy 20 gallons of paint. He started bitching about my price and told me that XYZ company down the street (a competitor) was selling the SAME paint for $4 per gallon less. So I asked him "well.....why didn't you buy it there?" He said "They were out of stock till next week" "yeah" I told him "my price is lower when I'm out too...." |

I want everyone to be armed....but not so much that I would sell them a gun below market price. Just like I want them to own PM's but I am not going to sell to them at a discount to make it happen. |
Re: SKS Searching...
Right, when gold jumps $500 and we unload I guess we're all "gouging" the "suckers" who will pay for it.
People are charging what other people will pay. Simple free market economics. Boohoo for the latecomers. |
Re: SKS Searching...
Ditto to the guy who said he saw a $425 Romanian SKS. I just saw the same thing last week with the same weapon. Hell we may even be looking at the same store. Amazing no?
I picked up my Norinco SKS a few months back from the guy for $300. He said never again will he sell them that low. From now on any SKS will be $400+ due to demand. He simply cannot keep anything on the shelves. I was doing an FFL transfer for a WASR-10 I picked up from Classic Arms. I made sure to get a brick of 7.62 while they had it in stock. The dude was jealous as hell I could pick some up. Offered me $50 extra of what I paid and I told him to get bent as I laughed my way out the door. I'm done stacking. I test fired all of my weapons for the first time in 5 months since I got out of the city for spring break. It was interesting the AK went bang every time. The SKS went bang every other time. I cleaned out the firing pin and other components as they were pretty dirty. Seemed to do the trick. We lit up the entire country side with the two commie guns. Neighbors in all directions seemed jealous. Within 20 minutes I heard rifle fire coming from all directions around our farm. My brother and I laughed our butts off as all you heard was gunfire coming from every which way. The farmers are restless and want to clear their throats. Freaked out my dad a little bit. I assured him that the neighbors will know that we are very well armed. |

Re: SKS Searching...
LOL @ Vince.
My Homestead shooting area comes alive with gunfire whenever I start shooting as well. It reminds me of dogs barking at one another across the hills. Makes me smile, too. |

We should all keep in mind that it's not REALLY that the guns have gone UP in value that much...... It's just that the FRN's are on their way to ZERO...no way around it. I always buy what I figure is CHEAP compared to other goods. Five years ago it was SKS's. And Silver. Now....it's food....fuel....And silver.... I originally bought into 7.62x.39 weapons because the AMMO was cheap. Now I can't even shoot mine for fear that I won't be able to replace the ammo at a reasonable price.....go figure.... |

As My Momma would say....... YOU APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR. I have a Lap top bag made by Swiss Army Knife Co...... I paid over 110 bucks for it......Ex wife thought I was nuts But you know something. I had that bag almost a year and you u swear I just bought it last month..... Why ? Cause I take care of that puppy like no tommarow( If I have to set it on the floor I will put something on the ground first) Also that bag is built to highest quality I have ever seen...... I have walked miles with it with little to no discomfort. People dont cherish things they are given.......they cherish things they have to pay for. T |
Re: SKS Searching...
Last show I was at didn't have an SKS in the place for less than $400.
MAK 90s NIB were $950. |
Re: SKS Searching...

i paid $100 for the one back in 96.and got the other for free when my younger bro moved to Boston.claimimg he couldn't take it cause of crossing different state lines. |
Re: SKS Searching...
There have always been more than a few dealers out there looking for the opportunity to gouge someone when they can. As a female who has been going to gun shows and gun shops sans a male escort for almost 30 years, I can't tell you how many times dealers have tried to sell me junk or quoted me a jacked-up price. I'd sometimes get my father or friends to go in later and check out the price when I knew someone thought I was an idiot and was trying to charge me too much, and usually I was right. Dad or my friends were often quoted a much lower price, and the dealers rarely tried to push the Saturday Night Specials and rusted up junk rifles on them. (Raise your hand if in 1982 you'd have paid $500.00 for a used .22 caliber pistol. The brand was "Clerk" or something like that. True Saturday Night Special! )
There are good honest dealers out there (and in recent years, they're more used to women buying guns; plus, as I got older and less shy, I learned to give them the "I know what I'm talking about demonstration" up front), but no one should be surprised at the avarice we're seeing now. It's been there all along, but now they have an opportunity to gouge a larger group. |
